The act of reaching toward another person, holding on, or letting go became a central visual language through which the artist explores existential questions of belonging, intimacy, and collective experience.

In “Wanted,” Nicole Weniger addresses the current wolf debate in the Alpine region. Using the style of wanted posters, she explores fears, myths, and questions of territoriality surrounding the wolf, exposing the absurdity of hunting an officially protected animal.

Safety in alpine regions has become an increasingly important topic in recent years. Nicole Weniger’s video *Markierung* (2021) presents a short docu-fiction based on a real “cow attack” case. Through video performance and photography, the work humorously reflects on safety in nature and its role in local tourism.

The sculptures “Scrap Selfie” reference the myth of Narcissus and explore the idea of “I photograph and document, therefore I exist,” replacing Descartes’ “I think, therefore I am.” The work reflects on absence and presence, showing how places and objects can evoke what is no longer there, and questions what it means to be present or to immortalize oneself in a place.

Cloud People presents fictional beings in a glacier landscape shaped by human intervention. They inhabit areas near geotextiles that cover the ice in summer to slow melting and preserve snow for winter.

In Rettungsfolie gepackte Figuren vermitteln in fast surrealistischer Weise eine Ankunft in der Schwebe zwischen Unsicherheit und Suche. Die Personen unter den goldenen Burkas wandern durch unwegsames Gebirge und über karge Küstenstreifen. Zu sehen ist eine nicht identifizierbare Gruppe, die sich versucht in der Landschaft zu orientieren.

Ausgehend von diesem Mythos entstand ein Performance-Projekt im öffentlichen und institutionellen Raum, welche der Frage nach einer sogenannten „Uridentität“ der InnsbruckerInnen auf den Grund geht. Absurdität und Fiktion spielen die tragende Rolle und manövrieren uns in eine Welt zwischen heimlich und unheimlich.

Je mehr sich die arabische Frau verhüllt, desto sichtbarer wird sie für das westliche Auge. In Frauen und Autos wird weibliche Identität und die damit verbundene räumliche Inanspruchnahme thematisiert. Das bekannte westliche Werbe-Sujet von Frauen, die in lasziven Stellungen vor Autos posieren, galt dafür als Vorlage. In Saudi-Arabien ist das Fahren von Autos für Frauen verboten.

Männerdominierte Straßen prägen das Stadtbild in den meisten Teilen von Istanbul. Als Frau fühlt man sich im öffentlichen Raum meist fehl am Platz. Die weit verbreiteten Barbershops markieren die Straßen als Men-only Territorium. Beim Betreten eines Barbershops versucht Nicole Weniger an diesem täglichen Ritual teilzunehmen...

Guess what I wear under my Burka thematisiert das in Europa diskutierte Burka-Verbot. Ein oft genanntes Argument für das Verbot ist, das Tragen von Burkas im öffentlichen Raum aus Sicherheitsgründen zu verbieten. Weder könne man erkennen welche Person sich unter der Burka befinde, noch welche Gegenstände diese mit sich führt.

Zu sehen ist eine goldene Flagge, die verlassen in einer Landschaft steht und im Wind weht. Die Flagge deutet darauf hin, dass jemand hier war. Unklar bleibt, wer und für was diese Flagge steht. Die Anwesenheit von etwas bzw. jemanden wird thematisiert. Die Rettungsdecke, konzipiert für einen Menschen, verweist somit auf einen Körper. Ein Körper, der nicht mehr anwesend ist.

Zum einen wird durch das in Europa diskutierte Burka-Verbot versucht die Burka als Erscheinung aus dem öffentlichen Raum zu verbannen, zum anderen sind gut betuchte TouristInnen aus dem arabischen Raum gern gesehene Gäste. Der Schreiraum fungiert als Ventil für angestaute Gefühle, die im öffentlichen Stadtgeschehen unterdrückt werden. In dem schalldichten Raum befindet sich ein projizierter Livestream, der die Aussicht von einem Berg in Innsbrucks näherer Umgebung zeigt. Der Schrei wurde live am Standort der Livecam über Lautsprecher abgespielt.
